Civil Rights Hero.
In August 1963 Martin Luther King Jr was at the height of his campaign for civil rights. In front of 200,000 people in Washington DC he gave the speech of his lifetime. "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character."
King was a preacher who had lived with racial inequality all his life. His message of peace changed American history. His protests helped to introduce the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This new act made equality the law - nobody could be treated as a second class citizen anymore. His assassination in 1968 shook the world and has left us with the memory of an inspirational and caring man who paid the highest price for his dreams.
