Peacemaker from Tibet.

When Tenzin Gyatso was four years old, the religious leaders of Tibet declared him to be the fourteenth Dalai Lama - the highest-ranking monk in Tibetan Buddhism. As leader of his country, he was respected and admired for his wisdom, his sense of justice and his loyalty to his people.

In 1950, the Chinese government invaded Tibet. The Dalai Lama was determined to find a peaceful way to Tibetan independence, but it soon became clear that the Chinese were not prepared to compromise. In 1959, he was forced to flee to Dharamsala in India, where he set up a community of Tibetan refugees that still flourishes today.

Although in exile from his homeland, he has continued to campaign for Tibetan independence, spreading a message of compassion and peace throughout the world. This is the story of a man of courage and love, a leader who has become an international figure of peace, freedom and hope.
