William Shakespeare is the world's most famous playwright. His work was very successful and made William a very wealthy gentleman.
William worked for a theatre company called the Lord Chamberlain's Men. He wrote many plays including the tragedy 'Hamlet', the historical play 'Richard II' as well as the comical 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.
Since William Shakespeare's death in 1616 his works have remained hugely popular. They have been translated into many languages and are still performed all over the world.
