This radical reassessment of the struggle between the Tasmanian Aborigines and the white settlers reveals them to be well organised and well armed. Their 'exile' to Wybalenna settlement was in fact part of a negotiated peace which the colonial government failed to honour. Even now the black and white fallen of Tasmania's patriotic war are largely unacknowledged. Reynolds challenges us to face our colonial history and accord it the same honour as Australia's conflicts overseas.
