Hinduism is a religion that started in India, but today, many people around the world follow a wide variety of Hindu practices. They believe that there is one God, but worship Him in many different forms: mainly as Shiva, the goddess Shakti and Vishnu who is usually worshipped in the forms of Rama and Krishna.

There are more than twenty Hindu festivals during the year, with traditional stories connected to each of them. Some are re-told here: how Vishnu defeated an evil tyrant; about Krishna's love for butter; and how the Goddess Lakshmi was attracted by the sound of beautiful singing. There is also a play script about Prince Rama, his beautiful wife Sita and the monkey general, Hanuman, plus a poem, prayer, song and the recipe for a delicious sweet.
