Lehrack, a Marine who served in the Vietnam War, draws on interviews with Marines and with men who fought with the 1st Viet Cong Regiment to offer an account of the first major clash of America's involvement in Vietnam. Code-named operation Starlite, the August 1965 battle was a resounding success for the Marines and a cause for great optimism about America's future in Vietnam.
