Fred Mouse lost his mother in a tragic accident that involved the extraordinary length of her tail, an eagle, a splinter and an act of kindness. When he then loses his father to an over-indulgence of milk Fred decides it's time to follow his dream - to find a mouse he can settle down with.
His dream leads him outside his cosy home and into the big wide world, where rain comes upside down, swearing is a place name and female mice aren't as welcoming as he had hoped!
Murray Ball introduces a true character, full of faults and personality. Fred is lovable and understandable, and most definitely quite brave. A great read-aloud story with fantastic illustrations.
