Fifteen year old Griff, faced with his mother's impending death, is wrenched from his everyday world of school, movies and computer games, to go to an academy in another place and time. It is a place that encompasses the three realms of magic, religion and science. There he must search for the one man who might be able to save his mother.
He is admitted to the academy's first school, Spiritus, which focuses on healing and reasoning. Here he becomes intrigued by a board game the students play and with his new friends he engages in what they simply call "The Game", a world of witch-hunts in the days of the Inquisition.
When his class is taken on a field trip to understand the religion and purpose of blood sacrifice of the Aztecs, his life, and his friends', is threatened and Griff must fight to save them. In doing so, he brings forth his arch-nemesis, The Supreme Inquisitor, but he can't tell if his nemesis is real of just a projection of his own imagination. Philosophy will help, but all is not as it seems.
His is a hero's journey and fantasy adventure, but it is also the journey we all face as we mature into that matrix of varying realities and truths we call life.
Book One unfolds at the academy's first school, Spiritus, and focuses on reasoning, medicine and healing and emphasises the concept of magic.
Book Two unfolds at the academy's second school, Mutatio, and focuses on transformaton and ancient tongues, emphasising the concept of religion.
Book Three unfolds at the third school, Immortalis, and focuses on the concept of science.
