Untold stories, fascinating history and surprising anecdotes - a love letter to Gloucestershire from one its greatest afficionados. If you thought Gloucestershire's claim to fame was simply honey-stone villages set in stunning Cotswold's countryside then this book will surprise and delight you. For centuries, glorious Gloucestershire has been at the forefront of innovation and famous historical events. It has inspired great works of literature and music, and even has its own rhyming slang. Come with me on a whirlwind journey exploring the Gloucester streets that inspired the characters of Scrooge and Long John Silver, the countryside that gave us Gustav Holst's finest work and the locations where the jet engine, the vacuum cleaner and instant custard were invented. Find out where classic movie scenes were filmed, walk with me to London in the footsteps of Dick Whittington, find out more about our quirky place names, be inspired to explore hidden gems and test your knowledge with quiz questions so you can 'squeeze every drop' out of glorious Gloucestershire. AUTHOR: Mark Cummings has been a radio and TV presenter, journalist and writer for over 40 years. He fell in love with Gloucestershire when he arrived here in 1993 and has gathered an immense knowledge of the county. He has developed a deep emotional connection with tens of thousands of listeners to his BBC Radio Gloucestershire Breakfast show which he presented for the last 18 years. He has also presented several 'West Country' travel series for BBC Points West TV. He writes a monthly column in Cotswold Life, he is a season ticket holder for Gloucester Rugby, and he is an honorary member of The Gloucester Civic Trust. In 2023 he received an Outstanding Contribution to the Community Across Gloucestershire award at the Gloucestershire Live Business Awards. 30 colour, 30 b/w illustrations
