Mitji had lived with the Aboriginal tribe for as long as she could remember but with her white skin and red hair she is not one of them. She decides to go on a long walkabout, in search of the walypalya, the tribe with hair and skin like her own, who had come from the great waters. On her wanderings she finds a white man, half-dead in the heat, and nurses him back to health. This chance meeting leads her to England, and happiness.
