In this, the third and most extraordinary volume of the Gonzo Papers, Dr Hunter S Thompson recalls high and hideous moments in his own life and the lives of many others. Thompson is at the top of his form while fleeing New York in the '50s, riding with the Hell's Angles in the '60s, investigating the dark underbelly of Las Vegas in the '70s, grappling with the Dukakis Problem in the '80s, and finally, in a morbid flashback titled 'Character is Destiny', leaving little hope for the '90s.
It begins with Thompson's blind charge into journalism in the 1950s (following a savage and unnatural military career) and ends with the bizarre and ultimately doomed government police action against him in February 1990 that included a brutal and unconstitutional eleven hour search of his home.
