This readable and accessible book gives the history of the world's major beer styles and the different brewing methods that created them. It takes the reader around the world in search of great beers and provides a fascinating insight into beer making and beer styles.
A particular beer is chosen to represent each style. Lowenbrau, for instance, is discussed as an example of a Bavarian lager. Interesting information on that beer is discussed, the taste is described and a recipe provided. The recipes do not attempt to replicate a particular beer, but brew in the general style of a country or area. The key ingredients and process to brew in the style of that region or country are given for the practitioner to learn and experiment. Beers selected for the book are those widely available in all parts of the world.
Prominence is given to British beers because they are the easiest styles to brew at home and there is a large variety of individual styles. Beers brewed outside the traditional beer-drinking countries are also included. Japanese, Indian, Chinese, South-East Asian, African and Australian beers are described and recipes provided.
