Ariadne is nine years old and she has an unfortunate habit. She exaggerates, tells tall stories - in a nutshell, she lies. Why? For a while it makes her popular, it impresses people, wins her friends and gains her attention.
News in class is her downfall: "Good morning Year 4, this is my news. I've got a horse."
For awhile, having a horse is enough but soon: "Good Morning Year 4, this is my news. My uncle's taking me to Arabia".
The kids are very impressed, especially with the fact that her uncle is a Bedouin chieftain. Mrs Baxter, Ari's teacher has her doubts, but she doesn't want to air her suspicions. Ari's lies soon come unstuck. She is the laughing stock of the class until something happens that restores her credibility and makes her feel good about herself again.
