Heroes of the Long Paddock tells the stories of the stock routes of the south of New South Wales. It is full of the tales of hard work, struggle, disaster and triumph and of families who have, in some cases, spent generations as drovers. It pays tribute to the stock rangers employed by the Pastures Protection Boards. The author has allowed her characters to tell their stories in their own words and makes a significant contribution to the oral history of the bush. Chris Anderson, born in England, migrated to Australia at thirteen. She quickly ?became an Australian'. She worked in Sydney and spent her holidays with drovers in the Snowy Mountains and on the western plains. For 40 years she has collected stories and made award-winning photographs of bush workers.
