Britain's diverse and ancient heritage is immensely rich, and there are many beautiful, unspoilt, quirky and fascinating places that are less publicized and less visited than the more conventional attractions. 'Hidden Britain' is a celebration of these places.
'Hidden Britain' is an 'alternative' tour of the country, taking in archaeological sites, such as Cissbury Ring in West Sussex, stately homes, including the 17th-century Stanway House in Gloucestershire, pubs, such as Southwark's historic George Inn, and wildlife and nature reserves, including Britain's oldest nature reserve, Wicken Fen in Cambridgshire. In between is a colourful mix of museums, religious buildings, monuments and landscapes.
Tom Quinn brings to life each location with his lively commentary on the fascinating architecture, eccentricities of local culture, breathtaking landscapes and mystical heritage of Britain. Each chapter is accompanied by a full-colour map, and Chris Coe's stunning photography captures the unique character of each site.
