History Through Poetry: World War I

'In trench and barn I spend each day,

At this war simply slog away,

A poem can tell us a great deal about the moment in history when the poet put pen to paper. This book uses the poetry of World War I to examine issues of patriotism, propaganda, religion, the role of women and life on the Western Front.
