It's 1944 and Howard Grainger is living with his mum through the Blitz in London, while his dad is off fighting the war. The nightly bombing raids are scary, but How gets on with his life just the same . . . Until he is evacuated; sent miles from home to live with his aunt and uncle in Lincolnshire . . .
At first it's awful, but How slowly adjusts to life in the country - he even makes some friends. And his mum writes to him every week.
But then the letters stop coming, and How's world turns upside down . . .
