Hooman is delighted when his father - usually very firm - lets him have a chicken, and his sister, Mina, a cat. The two children are being raised by their father since their mother died shortly after they came from Iran to live in Australia. Hooman is so pleased with his pet but Chickpea, the chicken, becomes a little bit of a problem - and Hooman finds he has to be both mother and father to her.
