A magnificent full colour photographic history of Ford v Holden.
Nineteen years. For a motor racing category that is an eternity.
But Australia’s unique touring car formula delivered just that; almost two decades of
exclusive Ford Falcon versus Holden Commodore warfare.
The rivalry between Australia’s two most popular home-grown sedans and the teams and drivers that raced them has been as intense as Collingwood versus Carlton or Labor versus Libs.
But for those glorious 19 years from 1994 to 2012 the racetracks of Australia shook to
the thunder of 5.0-litre V8 rear-wheel drive Falcons taking on 5.0-litre V8 rear-wheel drive
Commodores.
The technical beauty of V8 Supercars – as it came to be known – was that these were race cars under a skin that looked very much like the production cars that rolled from Ford’s Campbellfield and Holden’s Elizabeth assembly lines and onto thousands of driveways across the country.
