I read this book about 7 years ago and I can still remember every chapter. Kate Holden had an almost picture perfect upbringing, her family were affluent, she went to great schools and she was studying literature at uni when her life as she knew it came to a screeching halt. All it took was a party with friends and wanting to feel like part of the crowd, Kate was hooked on heroin. Shortly after her first "taste" her university career, her family life and her ambition took a back seat to her addiction. If you've ever been to St Kilda, Melbourne, you will find yourself picturing the scene as she is describing her old haunts and having to solicite herself on famous corners in order to pay for her addiction and the addiction of her boyfriend. For everything Kate has been through, this book is eloquent, shameless and to the point. If you have ever read "Candy" by Luke Davies, "In my skin" is almost a true replica of that fictional story. - Chaille (QBD)
