Kathy Eldon longed for a life of greater self-expression, deeper feeling, bigger adventures. After graduating from Wellesley, she married a Brit and moved to London in 1969. While she quickly settled into marriage and early motherhood, she longed for a more vibrant life.
In 1978, her husband came to her with an opportunity that might provide the adventure and life experience she longed for: they were to move with their two young children, to Kenya. There, Kathy and her husband set about raising Dan and Amy in a society that shaped her children to be spiritual and artistic-and where they were free to follow their own truth in a way she hadn't been. A psychic dimension is also central to the story. Skeptical at first, Kathy ignores the evidence of her first encounter with the paranormal in London, is driven by hard facts to explore it in Kenya, and finally accepts its validity after Dan's death.
There is a third thread interwoven with the others--how Kathy faces the progressive challenges of her failing marriage, a volcanic love affair that goes wrong, the loss of her home and job as a journalist in Kenya, a near fatal illness, embarking on an entirely new career in film production, coming to terms with her son's murder, and creating a new life for herself and her daughter Amy in Hollywood.
