Introducing Reason 4 covers basic and intermediate use of Propellerheads’ Reason software, including all of the program’s virtual instruments, audio effects, and sequencing functionality. Along with the necessary technical information, each chapter includes a consistent focus on encouraging experimentation and emphasis on encouraging readers to incorporate their own ideas into the program’s workflow in order to use Reason in creative ways. Some examples:
A basic understanding of digital synthesis, which can open up incredible possibilities for creating sounds with Reason’s synthesizers.
The process of creating samples from any sound source with Reason’s NN-XT and NN-19 sampler instruments, thereby encouraging the reader to seek out their own original sound sources.
An introduction to some of Reason’s infinite routing capabilities, while emphasizing the creative possibilities of using the instruments and effects in unusual ways.
The book also contains examples, from interviews and from research, of how other users at every level have “invented” their own workflows and methodology for creating music with Reason. The examples are described in detail and the actual Reason Session files are included on the CD.
