The story of artist Barbara Carmichael and her friend Tarun, a spice merchant in Udaipur, and their friendship that developed over ten years after meeting accidentally in 2005. Barbara travelled to India 13 times over this period, and became part of his family. Tarun was like a brother to her and through his eyes, she discovered an India that she would grow to love. She was no longer a tourist.
Barbara experienced life through this wonderful Indian family, joining Tarun and his family for religious festivals, family celebrations and even had the honour of naming Tarun's son when he was born before tragedy stuck. This book is a tribute to a unique friendship and a gift to Tarun's family.
India is explained in a beautiful tone and how she describes meeting her soulmate and unusual friendship and being shown India through the eyes of a local. Beautifully written and charming story.
