Jessie is a super-bright teenager whose brilliant musical career is brought to an abrupt halt by depression. A psychologist advises her to get her life on track by attending an ordinary school and mixing with ordinary kids of her own age.
She and her father end up in a small rural backwater where she is not recognised as the international pianist she is. In the local school she makes friends with three boys with whom she has some wild adventures, culminating in a terrifying motorcycle ride. Jessie joins their "garage" band as the keyboard player and they perform in the school concert. In the process she learns the values of friendship and simple pleasures and gets her life back together.
