Eales struggled with adversity in order to reach his goals and his illustrious career was almost cut short by an early injury. In 1997 he suffered the humiliation of calls for his dismissal yet the following year he captained the World Cup-winning Wallabies. He is regarded as one of the finest ever rugby players for Australia.
