The journals of the first fleet are the first written accounts of the grand naval adventure that culminated in the creation of the Australian state. Written by Arthur Philip, Admiral of the first fleet, and Watkin Tench, Captain-lieutenant, the journals chronicle the details of the voyage to the landing at Botany Bay in 1788, the first meetings with Aboriginal people, along with the early life of the settlement at Port Jackson.
