Dan Carter, his wife Sara and their two children are at Heathrow, about to get on a plane that will take them on their first vacation as a family when he discovers his passport's missing. Exasperated, Sara says she and the children will go on their own. You can't, he says. Just watch me, she replies. Hours later, Dan watches the newsflash about the plane going down over the Atlantic and his life is shattered. But after the first explosion of grief, the questions start to haunt him. Was it an accident his passport got mislaid? Did Sara make sure he wasn't on the plane? Was he the intended target of a terrorist attack that lead back to his time as a sniper in Afghanistan? And how does that tie in with his wife's secret life that he gradually starts to uncover.
