Kim Gordon: Performing/Guzzling is a true artist's book, designed and curated by Gordon and Zurich based cult-publisher, Nieves. Visual artist and legendary indie rocker Kim Gordon goes beyond showing her work as a traditional monograph by designing an intoxicating portrait of her ethereal and dreamy world. This book opens with her haunting watercolour portraits that are inspired by Gordon's actual experience of looking into an audience and seeing abstracted faces. The watercolours lead into her large-scale paintings and then finish with a section of her ephemeral photographs and snapshots. Gordon's original writings and poetry are sprinkled throughout the book which serve to create a cadence between portfolios. Gordon has a deep art world background. In the early 1980s, Gordon wrote for Artforum and worked for several Soho art galleries. She curated an exhibition at White Columns gallery in 1982 in which Mike Kelley and Tony Oursler were among the participants. Dan Graham invited her to join in a performance of an all-female rock band, which marked the start of her first band CKM. The first 3000 copies of this beautifully bound, hardcover volume will come with an exquisitely printed, limited edition signed print. Rizzoli collaborated with Nieves, the cult-like zine and artist book publisher in Zurich, to create this beautiful package. Nieves, considered an artist project in its own right, enjoys indie underground and progressive main-stream success alike. Featuring artist books by Aaron Rose, Ari Marcopoulos, David Shrigley, Rita Ackermann to name a few, Nieves and Rizzoli will combine forces to create a series of beautifully designed artist books by artists, photographers, and designers that have substantially contributed to the texture of artistic culture. Each project will be an extension of the artists' portfolio.
