Kinvara Wives

Johnny Lonely's outburst takes Hannah by surprise. The shabby recluse is usually too nervous to speak at all, except to the children of Kinvara, who are unperturbed by his scruffy clothes and eccentric habits. And Hannah certainly doesn't feel blessed, with her husband Rob away another tour of duty at the Kinvara lighthouse, and their son Andy suffering from cerebral palsy. She's the one who must cope with everything at home - with her own unwanted pregnancy, even with Rob's illegitimate daughter, Vaila. Her mother, Morna Jean, dead so tragically young, had been Rob's great love and Hannah sometimes feels she will always be second best.

But the warm and friendly community of Kinvara is beginning to take the shy young woman to its collective heart; her rage at poor Andy's disability is beginning to soften into love and pity; perhaps Hannah Sutherland can become a good Kinvara wife after all.
