Built in Mannheim, Germany, the Lanz Radiator Bulldog tractor, from 1928 designed with reverse gear and foot-pedal clutch, became the most successful tractor of its time in Europe. From the mid-thirties buyers could choose from an extensive product range. Bulldogs ranging in power from 20 to 55 hp were available, as both farm tractors and road tractors.
During the period 1928 to 1942 the Lanz Bulldog had very few national or international competitors; other smaller tractor manufacturers did not have the powerful sales network of the Lanz company, so the Bulldog achieved worldwide success. Even today some of these machines, with their robust one-cylinder hotbulb engines with more than 10 litres capacity, are preserved by their proud owners, not only in Europe, but in the USA and Australia.
