Miles Kington first introduced the Let's Parler Franglais columns for Punch in the late 70s. Having fun with the way the English use the French language, they are a combination of wit and linguistic dexterity. They were an instant hit with students, teachers and the general public. By 1982 there were four books, all of which were reprinted a number of times: as the author wryly observed, they were undoubtedly ?the most popular bilingual lavatory books of the 1980s'. Le Bumper Book de Franglais is drawn from those columns written since the last collection, which Kington had begun to assemble into a book at the time of his death in 2008. A British journalist, musician and broadcaster, he wrote for Punch for 15 years and also The Times, the Oldie and most recently the Independent, where he stayed for nearly 20 years.
