Len and Spike are best mates. The Aussie battler and the sulphur-crested cockatoo have been together for about twenty years, often busking together to make a few dollars. Spike's brilliant rap-dancing performance makes him popular with show crowds, while he amuses his audience with a rattle of cocky-talk.
But Len knows that Spike can really talk - make conversation - like a human! Len has never told anyone about this. He knows they'd think he was crazy. But when Spike tells him he'd like to perform at the International Fair and Expo in Sydney, Len decides to give it a go. It's a decision that turns both their lives upside-down.
