Leonard was one of the inventor of the Swinging Sixties. Everyone went to his Mayfair salon, from the Kennedys to the Krays. He invented the Twiggy hairstyle, the Beatles' mop cuts. He was an international superstar, a West-End barrow boy whose charm and talent had the whole world knocking at his door. He even but the long, unwashed hair of the hermit billionaire, Howard Hughes.

But two divorces and an excess of alcohol destroyed his company, and in 1988 Leonard almost died form a brain tumour. Fashionable London rallied round to create The Leonard Trust to help him, but the days of homes in Belgravia, Chelsea and Gloucestershire, the Mercedes and the BMWs were over. Brain surgery left him with epileptic fits.

Now from his council flat in South London, Leonard looks back on his life in the fast lane, and celebrates the fact that tributes to his artistry still blossom and that he is far from forgotten.
