Plotting narratives that blur the line between fact and fiction, in the works featured in David Lamelas: Fictions, a pioneering figure of conceptual art is shown drawing vivid connections between sculptural forms that elicit participation by inviting us to move through space and time and film and videos that do so by asking us to identifying with images of celebrity.
The works in David Lamelas: Fictions experiment with conventional formats in ways that make us acutely aware of the constructed nature of narrative and identity. Featuring Lamelas's investigations of different media-including sculpture, film, photography, and video-the book charts new ground through a body of work by Lamelas that spans 1966 to 2020. Made by the artist in Argentina, Europe, and the United States, the thirteen projects that make up the focus of the book demonstrate the agile and inventive ways Lamelas produces works in which he directs his critical eye toward diverse contexts to reveal the proximity of fantasy and truth.
