In Lion of the Heart selected writings of the influential 13th century Sufi mystic Rumi are brought to life for contemporary readers. Rumi was the founder of the brotherhood of the Whirling Dervishes and his poetry and meditative writings have had an enduring religious influence. He was a prolific writer, and the poetry in this collection extends over a wide range of themes, from the perception of beauty and the need to cry out for help to the destruction of identity in order to experience God more fully. This rich and stimulating collection has been superbly translated by Coleman Barks, who brings all the vitality, eccentricity and passion of the original to this modern version.
