I am not a massive Classics reader. But I stepped out of my box to see how I might like reading some of the worlds biggest and best classic writers work. I started with 'To be read at dusk' by Charles Dickens which contains 3 short stories, all of which I have never heard of, and all three stories captured my attention and, even though dark, made their way into my heart.
I definitely recommend this little gem, especially for those who are not yet ready to tackle Dickens bigger works of fiction.
Of the 3 short stories, I have to admit that The Signalman has been the one that has stuck with me the most. It's a harrowing tale of a man working on the train tracks who sees a ghost waving and then people start to die. The story follows the narrator who listens to the man and confessess that he too saw the ghost hours beforehand. The story is written in such a way that you are questioning what is going to happen next throughout the short 50-odd pages, and whether someone will end up dead in the end.
A great story to read at night, for extra chills and thrills. - Lisa (QBD)
