This book traces the earlier history of South Africa, including the rise and fall of apartheid, to show how the momentous elections came about. Then it looks at the social and economic problems inherited by the new multi-racial government and explains the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

It studies the policies introduced to put right the wrongs, and considers the challenges faced by the government today.
