Screenwriter Alan Tate can't help quoting from classic movie comedies he wishes he'd written. But with a wife who wants him out of the house last week, a producer who's withholding payments and heavies arriving to repossess the Beemer, the jokes are wearing thin.

Enter Andree, an extremely forward German producer, among whose less visible attractions is the sort of development budget that makes a sense of humour irrelevant. The storyline's in place, the advance is waiting - all that's needed is a little research. Research is not Alan's strong point, however, and a tour round the supposedly sexy world of high finance does nothing to raise his level of enthusiasm.

But if the film's looking short on glam, Alan's own life suddenly isn't. Babes on tap, a top-notch bank robbery and police officers regarding his screenplay as some kind of master plan, Alan might have lost the plot - or has it lost him? - but once the corpses start piling up the game doesn't seem so much fun any more . . .
