In Roy Thornton's new book, The Lost Buildings of Birmingham, we discover what architectural gems have been lost from the city forever. Some will be fondly remembered public buildings which would have played a part in many Brummies' childhoods, while others are more obscure, and will take a lot of thought to recall. Featured here are city centre buildings, such as those which once stood in Corporation Street, and New Street, along with libraries, baths, markets, hospitals, schools, churches, pubs, theatres and cinemas, as well as residential buildings and industrial buildings which have now been demolished in the name of progress. Of course, Birmingham boasts a great many new structures, but Roy Thornton's book is a fond, nostalgic look back at the buildings which once graced the streets of this great city.
