When a person has difficulty speaking, confuses words or experiences memory loss, the ability to point to an image to help make themselves understood is invaluable. Hoping to make life that little bit easier for her mother who suffered from Alzheimer's, Gunilla Denton Cook created the first version of what has now become Lost Words.
Lost Words contains more than 290 photographs of everyday items and their corresponding names, a page for notes, an emergency contact section and five plastic sleeves so personal photographs can be included as individual reminders. This adult picture book simplifies and improves communication between caregivers and patients who, for different reasons, have difficulty finding the right words for things.
