Bebhinn Ramsay was only thirty-one when her husband died suddenly leaving her widowed with two small children. In the aftermath of his death she tried to come to terms with the sense of loneliness, loss, injustice and devastation she felt at the premature death of the father of her children, and the great love of her life.
In LOVE'S LAST GIFT we see Bebhinn re-trace the steps of her relationship with Alastair from when they met and fell in love in London, to the birth of their two sons, to when he died over the course of three days while on holiday in America, to the days, weeks and months and years that followed his death.
In a searingly honest and, at times, heartbreaking account she describes the ways she tried to come to terms with his senseless and untimely death and how, through opening her mind and her heart, she ultimately found acceptance, peace and eventual happiness.
Bebhinn has written this book to explain her approach to grief. She describes how she has learned that even in death, loved ones continue to be a giving and loving presence and how from something devastating, something good can grow.
Since Alastair's death in 2007, Bebhinn has set up a charity in his name in Brazil, together with his family and friends, which supports vulnerable families that face the double challenge of child illness and poverty http://alastairramsay.net/
A greater compassion, spiritual awareness and sense of joy in her young children are just some of the gifts Bebhinn continues to receive from Alastair and the love they shared. LOVE'S LAST GIFT is a beautifully written, emotional, ultimately uplifting account of overcoming loss and embracing life.
