Lowestoft Past oPresent reflects the many changes that have taken place in the town since its Victorian heyday - focusing on the transformations wrought by two world wars, 1960s redevelopment and the building of the spine road in the 1970s. Many of the photographs are previously unpublished, and all the views of Lowestoft today have been taken especially for this book. Over the years some of the most historic parts of Lowestoft have been destroyed - by enemy bombs as well as by insensitive planning decisions - and the well-known fishing fleet that used to be sich an important part of the town's life is also a shadow of its former self. All is not doom and gloom, however: slum clearance has had many benefirs, while some important buildings have recently been given a new lease of life Ian G. Robb was born and bred in Lowestoft, as is a well-known local history and photographer. His new book will enthral anyone who knows and loves Lowestoft, whether as a resident or a visitor.
