It might be said that the ultimate goal of the photographer is to document their subjects with the utmost accuracy. This comprehensive monograph by the Cuban-born photographer Carlos Domenech presents photographs taken in different contexts worldwide; often in difficult circumstances, with this aim in mind. In these pages, Domenech provides a master class in the art of architectural photography, adapting to the varied challenges of location, light, angles, inspiration, and nature of the subject itself to create vivid, fascinating and illuminating images. The focus of this book is architecture in its many incarnations. The collection features over thirty years of photographs taken in a variety of circumstances, ranging from magnificent palaces to family homes, from grand facades to cosy interiors, from centuries-old masterpieces to modern greats. The different chapters travel widely from Imperial Russia through Europe to small, remote villages in North Africa; through colonial South and Central America to tropical Caribbean islands and Florida, and vary in style from major overviews and themed country-wide shoots to studies in colour and decoration. Luminous showcases the work of a photographer who believes in the power and beauty that can be documented at any time in any place. This book features over 200 original images and is produced as part of joint project between Oscar Riera Ojeda Publishers and the Architectural Photography Foundation. It accompanies an exhibition of the photography featured which in 2012 will tour through the Chinese cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzen.
