It seemed too good to be true when Richard the Duke of Kynaston fell in love with Christiana just as her father gambled her family to edge of ruin. Well, now that she's been married to the bas- ... ahem, Duke for some time, she knows for certain ... it was.
Not only does Dickie treat her horribly, but she and her sisters have learned he had their father drugged and left to think he gambled away everything. Then Dickie swooped in to get his hands on the secret but HUGE dower from her grandfather, Old Money Bags Sefton. To make matters worse, now his cohort is trying the same trick with her younger sister. Christiana's fate may be sealed, but she has no intention of allowing her sisters to share in her pain. But just when they have a plan of action, a very convenient thing happens ... the Duke is found dead in the midst of house party. But as the dead duke sits on ice in the guest room while the ladies plot their next move ... another man claiming to be the Duke of Kynaston arrives.
It seems Dickie was not truly the Duke, but the jealous younger twin brother, George, who had the real Richard kidnapped and left for dead. Now the true Richard has returned to seek revenge, only to find his brother conveniently deceased. BUT no one knows of the switch and no one knows George is dead. This is all rather easy for our newly instated Duke, EXCEPT now he has a rather beautiful but stubborn wife-who may or may not have poisoned his brother and who is almost certainly a gold digger. With little time before the Dickie on ice begins to ripen and with a killer in their midst, a frightful thing happens: the very real Duke and the newly-minted widow might just find that this turn of events suits them a little too well....
