Katinka lives in a rambling old apartment block in Massachusetts, and makes ends meet by writing stories for top-shelf men's magazines. She's a disappointment to her mother (who defines an eligible bachelor by the college he went to), and is all too frequently reminded of her professional (and personal) failings by her ex-husband (who used to be Katinka's professor).
But it's coming up to Christmas and something wonderful - and unusual - is happening. Katinka is falling in love with the mailman - the gorgeous man who delivers her bills, her rejected manuscripts and the occasional pay cheque for a story published in a too-obscure magazine. But is it love or is it just lust? And is he still involved with his ex? And whatever will her mother think?
