The story of Maina Gielgud's life is rich, dramatic, intriguing and compelling. She became one of the leading ballerinas of her time, and her partners included Rudolf Nureyev, Jonathan Kelly and Peter Breuer. Her career has linked her with many other outstanding stars of the ballet. Gielgud was Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet from 1983 to 1996, during which time she transformed it into a world-class company at the leading edge of Australian cultural expression at home and abroad.
