This book complements an earlier volume, Images of Maldon and Heybridge, and provides an intriguing insight into the history of the area with over 200 images of photographs, postcards and other printed material. The reader is taken through the history of Maldon and the Dengie Hundred from the end of the Victorian era, through the First World War to te 1920s and '30s, when Maldon was promoting itself as ideal for holidays, health and beauty - 'The Pearl of East Coast Estuary Towns'. It ends with the Second World War during which so many local citizens, both in towns and countryside, played vital roles on the Home Front.
Developments at Heybridge, the Basin, Mill Beach and Osea Island are covered and a trip by steam train is taken, via Maldon West, to the villages of the Dengie Hundred.
Selected from the archives of the Maldon District Museum and the author's own postcard collection, this splendid pictorial record will help tell the stories of fifty years and stir nostalgic memories for all those who know and remember the area, whilst providing newcomers with a glimpse of the area's past.
