Men don't often talk about their friends, their mates, yet these relationships are sometimes the most enduring in a person's life. Jim Hopkins and Julie Riley travelled the length of New Zealand, seeking out those unique and often unacknowledged friendships.
They interviewed well-known individuals such as Sean Fitzpatrick, Keith Quinn, Burton Shipley, Mike King and Dick Hubbard and their best friends. And they have unearthed some interesting but lesser-known people, such as a couple of members of Alf's Imperial Army, the Ian Club (a collection of friends all called Ian - whether they like it or not! - who are building a railway), and a couple of guys who are building a hovercraft together.
Altogether, some fifty friendships are featured in the book. Each story is different, and each is equally fascinating.
