During the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 1970s, up to a thousand Australian women found themselves in Vietnam.
They were there as army and civilian nurses, entertainers, secretaries, consular staff, volunteer workers and more. These women were feted and pampered, patronised and harassed, and more than a few were assaulted or raped - while the wives, mothers and lovers of the men who returned discovered how harrowing the effect of war could be, and how it would affect their lives.
'Minefields And Miniskirts' presents the funny, tragic and intensely personal stories of over fifty women who were deeply involved in the war, either in the combat zone or on the home front. In this moving, enlightening and sometimes shocking book, ordinary women reveal how they surmounted crises, overcame abuse, discovered what they believed in and found their true potential.
