"I am on my mountain in a tree home that people have passed without ever knowing that I am here...I came upon it last summer and dug and burned it out until I made a snug cave in the tree that I now call home..."
Everyone talks about running away: leaving it all behind, taking off into a new life. Teenager Sam Gribley has done just that. Instead of a crowded New York apartment, he's now living off the land where his Great-grandfather Gribley's farm once stood.
It's a different world from the city, though, as Sam soon discovers - food has to be caught before it can be cooked, a bed and a home have to be made from nothing, and fires have to be lit. And when Sam realises that the heavy winter snow will soon be rolling in, he wonders if he'll make it through to the Spring.
